Background and Description

In October 2004, the Saint Lazarus Foundation was officially launched.  The aim is to channel, through this non-governmental structure, all the Hospitaller work of the Order.  The Foundation will focus on Hospice related charity, as is consistent with the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem.

Approval of Constitution and Board of Governors

The Constitution of the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation was fully approved by the members of the Grand Priory of the Mediterranean at the Annual Investiture of the Grand Priory on the 26th of February 2005. The Constitution was duly notarised and registered on the 20th of July 2005.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Foundation was held in September 2008. The Board of Governors decided that, since the Foundation was donating and aiding a number of Hospitaller and Charitable projects throughout the region and not specifically Hospice related, the Foundation would officially be referred to as the Saint Lazarus Foundation and not the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation. This change of name will not diminish the Foundation’s work in the Hospice field: indeed, during 2008, the Malta Hospice Movement received a donation from the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation amounting to 3,500 Euros. Furthermore, there was unanimously approved a change in the board of governors as follows:

Chairman of the Board of Governors:
Chev. Massimo Ellul GCLJ GCMLJ

Secretary of the Board of Governors:
Chev. Charles Caruana KLJ OMLJ

Board Members:
Dame Christabel Ellul Saliba DLJ
Confrere Joseph E Deguara CLJ
Consoeur Elaine Tonna MLJ

Officers of Commanderies from Malta, England and Italy meet up with the

Master General of the Order and the Reciever General of the United Grand

Priories for a brain storming session regarding the setting up of the Saint

Lazarus Hospice Foundation.
