Malta - Record Breaking Supported Employment Success Figures Reached (December 2015)
The Saint Lazarus Foundation was not only one of the pioneers of introducing supported employment services to the vulnerable and needy on the island but was also a founding member of the Malta Association of Supported Employment which was set up specifically to create such a scenario nationwide. Led by the Order's Grand Chancellor and other officials from various established NGOs, the Association was instrumental in ensuring that the targets agreed to by the related government authorities in June 2016 were not only reached but nearly tripled whilst keeping to the financial targets agreed to.
In fact, targets envisaged for the period June - December 2015 were mutually agreed to be of 80 successfully placed supported employees. On the 31st of December 2015, the official registered amount of successful beneficiaries amounted to a staggering 180 people; all vulnerable, including physically and mentally disabled, homeless, ex drug or alcohol addicts, households hovering on the poverty line and ex-inmates.
During the month of December, the Supported Employment team deservedly celebrated their success by means of a staff dinner in the South of Malta. Earlier, in November 2015, the team met Her Excellency the President of Malta during the Annual General Meeting of the Malta Federation of Organisations Persons with Disability (MFOPD) of which the Saint Lazarus Foundation is also an active member and represented by its officials.
