Historian Honored by the Order after Research into Lazarite ancient history related to Saint Lazarus Island (May 2013)
According to historical researches the Order of Saint Lazarus had its own island in the South of Hungary (close to Szigetvar) where they set up a monastery for the treatment of lepers and the ill. Historical researches have been extensively conducted and handed over to our Grand Priory in Hungary.
For this very intensive research, the United Grand Priories would like to publicly appreciate this outstanding work of the Hungarian historian Janos Lebedy. Mr. Lebedy is an avid researcher of the history of the Order of Saint Lazarus and has agreed to assist the Order in enriching its archives related to the history of the medieval, albeit defunct Order of Saint Lazarus.
