Grand Priory of Hungary - Assistance to the Holy Crown Elementary School (June 2013)
The Hungarian Grand Prior and the members of the Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem based in Hungary spent a day in the Holy Crown Elementary School, in Budapest. The Child Protection Officer greeted the Delegation of the Order.
This School was founded more than 100 years ago. The humble and dedicated approach of the teachers led these students to win several competitions in sports and in different subjects. Music gets an important role from the first grade. A beautiful performance was held in honour of the Members of the Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem and thus gave a little insight of the school's educational excellence.
Unfortunately the governmental funding is not enough in Hungary to provide enough resources to maintain, for example, the infrastructural needs of the buildings. Most of the money is spent on communal and municipal bills which exhaust the available revenue for actual tools used in education.
The 15th District in Budapest has many families living in poverty. The reason for this visit was primarily to hand over a donation to those little ones who come from a more difficult social background. The students and their teachers appreciated the gesture and wished the Grand Priory of Hungary further successes whilst keeping the Holy Crown Elementary School close to its heart.
