Grand Priory of Ethiopia: Gala Dinner for Water Project Donors (September 2016)
The Grand Priory of the US organised a superb Gala Dinner for its officers and members who have donated to the Water Project Foundation of His Imperial Highness, Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie of Ethiopia, the grandson of Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and his Lady wife, Princess Saba. HIH Prince Ermias is the President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia. He is also a Knight Grand Cross of Merit of the Companionate of Merit of the Order of Saint Lazarus and the Grand Prior of Ethiopia of the Order.
This was the first financial commitment by the Order in financially assisting the Prince's Water Foundation in Ethiopia in order to ensure that more clean water is made accessible throughout that country for its vulnerable inhabitants in regions which are still without water and electricity. During the Gala Dinner, HIH Prince Ermias had the time to personally thank each donor for his/her philanthropic assistance and delivered a very interesting speech explaining in detail the progress to date of the Foundation's initiatives in Ethiopia.
The day after the Gala Dinner, in a moving ceremony in Los Angeles, California, the Supreme Grand Priory of the Order, by means of the Grand Chancellor, signed a five year memorandum of understanding wherein the Order will be financially assisting the Prince's Water Foundation in Ethiopia in order to ensure that more similar initiatives in Ethiopia are undertaken by the Foundation in question. The next donation from the Supreme Grand Priory will be given at the International Lazarite Congress which will be held in June 2017 in Nevis Island. An honour and a pleasure.
