Grand Priories of Malta and Gozo Investiture: April 2018
The 21st of April featured yet another successful investiture and gathering of Knights and Dames of the Order of Saint Lazarus under the auspices of the Grand Priory of Malta. The solemn investiture service took place after a thanksgiving mass held at the Church of Ta' Giesu, Rabat, Malta, under the newly reconstructed church ceiling of this splendid temple, which we have been so proud to assist in.
The packed investiture saw deputations from various Grand Priories and jurisdictions of St. Lazarus, including Malta, Gozo, Hungary, Germany, China, Russia, Ireland, Serbia and Belorussia.
Twenty members and postulants joined the Order or were promoted for their Hospitaller work and fourteen new volunteers for our very active Projekt-Lazarus Historical Commandery were admitted into the Commandery. Fifteen new Gozo Cadets of the hard-working Emergency Response and Rescue Corps were also given their shoulder patches and donations were given to the Franciscan Community of Rabat and for the Iklin Parish project for persons with disability needs.
This investiture continues to underline, year after year, that the Grand Priory of Malta of the Order of St. Lazarus is by far the most active and biggest chivalric organisation on the island and continues to augur well for the future of Hospitaller work nationwide.
The ceremony was led by the Grand Prior of Malta, Dr. Daniel Bugeja, the President of the Notarial Council of Malta, overseen by the Grand Chancellor and his aides de camp. Also present for the investiture were the Chancellor of Malta, the Grand Prior and Chancellor of Gozo, the Grand Prior and Chancellor of China, the Grand Prior of Germany and other dignitaries.Dame Elke Sghendo gave a full rendition of charitable donations given by the Saint Lazarus Foundation during 2017; a report which was given a standing ovation. An investiture luncheon was also held immediately afterwards.
