Ukraine: German Commandery donates Clothing to Ukraine (July 2019)
On July 11, 2019, our brothers from the Neckar-Enz Commandery in cooperation with sisters of the Franciscan religious order, carried out an aid transport to Ukraine. A total of 17 pallets, with exclusively new items of clothing for the civilian population of the crisis region in Ukraine, were brought together by relatives and helpers of the Commandery and loaded into the transport vehicle provided by the Franciscans.
The goal of the transport was a monastery in western Ukraine, in which the clothes are sorted and for further transport in the eastern parts of the country, in which war-like conditions prevail, have been pre-pared.
Due to the current political situation in the country, the majority of the donated goods are currently temporarily stored in the Polish border area and are transported by the Franciscans in smaller loads across the border to the monastery. However, the first parts have already reached the people and we are pleased that a complete range could be distributed to a Ukrainian children's home. A child's smile is a constant reward and one of the goals that were pursued in addition to the practical service to the needy - in the spirit of Saint Lazarus - through this action. In the coming weeks, the remaining pallets of clothing will reach the monastery and will be distributed to those in need by the sisters.
